Who is it suitable for?
Headteachers, deputy and assistant heads, governors, and other leaders in school.
What will you learn?
This course will develop your understanding of the range of observational strategies available and how they can be used to develop a holistic view of school climate and performance. It also shows how to link this with broader school improvement.
What will it cover?
The training will cover:
- defining a strategy for ‘learning walks’ (expectations in terms of classroom and whole school environment)
- choosing the right time and circumstances to conduct ‘learning walks’
- how to develop a policy to make ‘learning walks’ a worthwhile exercise
- linking outcomes to whole school teaching and learning policies
- linking ‘learning walks’ to work scrutiny, and relating the process to assessment policy
- using ‘learning walks’ to check on issues of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, cohesion and equality
- developing focus groups for self-evaluation.
