This specialist course is held at our London teacher professional development centre. Our specialist courses cover all aspects of training required to support schools’ continuing improvement and management.
Course duration 1 day - 9:00 - 16:30 Who is the course suitable for? All senior school managers and school governors. What will you learn? Safer recruitment is one strand of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, a key part of the strategy for children and young people set out in Every Child Matters. The Bichard Report on child protection recommended that schools, governors and key LA staff should be trained to ensure that recruitment processes take into account the importance of child protection. From January 2010 at least one person from every school interview panel must have completed the safer recruitment training so it is important that schools/ LAs plan well ahead. What will it cover? - Learn how safer recruitment fits within the wider context of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the Every Child Matters agenda.
- Understand the importance of planning a recruitment exercise.
- Understand importance of making the right decisions and using structured interviews as well as pre-employment checks on the candidates selected for appointment.
- Examining the need for ongoing awareness and vigilance and considering how organisations can develop and maintain an environment that deters and prevents abuse and challenges inappropriate behaviour.
