This is a free course.
Course duration Twilight session – 16.00 – 19.00. Who is the course suitable for? School governors. Course overview The Coalition Government has been in office for little over six months, and has already laid out its vision of how to improve educational standards. The Academies Act is already on the statutes; changes to grant funding to schools – including the Pupil Premium – are in place; the Schools’ White Paper, ‘The Importance of Teaching’, a key document in promoting the vision, was published last November; and the new Education Bill was presented to the Commons at the end of January. For schools, and their governors, the enactment of the Coalition’s vision will bring about changes to finance and funding, accountability, expectations of school improvement and new school systems to support these changes. School governors will need to have access to more rigorous and high-quality training to provide an effective level of challenge and support to headteachers and their senior leadership teams; to provide a strategic focus to their accountabilities and responsibilities; to understand how to access and how to interpret more data to support school improvement; and be able to support their school in achieving new financial management standards. Outcomes - Provide up to date information on a range of government initiatives (including the new Education Bill).
- Provide school governors with the opportunity to participate in practical workshops which will help them to fulfil their role with maximum effect, to benefit their school.
