Product overview
Each book contains advice on teaching and writing plus detailed lesson plans to guide teachers through the process. Such projects impact positively on literacy attainment, particularly for those children (often boys) who appear to have become disengaged from the writing process. The methodology motivates all children and builds the self-confidence they need to become independent writers.
The Igniting the writing series contains the following books:
- The Magic Carpet (Early Years) - Let your children fly in more ways than one! Using a combination of imagination, artwork, oral story planning and a supportive template, many new lands will be visited and situations invented and resolved. Children as young as five will become proud and confident author/illustrators whilst enhancing their skills in reading, writing, listening and talking.
- Meeting with an Alien - By this stage, confident young writers are experimenting with zigzag books - a format which offers lots of opportunities to enhance the writing through ingenious methods of presentation. The process of oral planning with a writing partner guides the storyline and skilled peer questioning prevents the plot going off at a tangent or getting muddled. High quality work ensues.
Ghost Story (Secondary) - The stories are longer and more complex. The illustrations and use of language become very sophisticated. A 'Writing Ideas Book' is used to full effect to practise creating mood, atmosphere, character etc. Frequent 'Writers Conferences' model the best work and keep standards high for everyone. The work produced is truly outstanding providing quality evidence that the children are successful learners and confident individuals in the area of literacy.
