Course duration 1 day. Who is the course suitable for? This training is suitable for practitioners in Early Years, Key Stage 1, phase and subject leaders. What will you learn? This training relates specifically to the Letters and Sounds Programme and meets the Department for Education ‘Core Criteria’ for phonics teaching. Participants will: - secure their subject knowledge and understanding of phonics to deliver high quality phonics teaching
- develop a clear understanding about the pace, progression and strategies used within the Letters and Sounds Programme
- be clear about principles and effective practice for planning, teaching and assessing pupil progress.
What will it cover? - Rationale including ‘The Simple View of Reading’
- Phonic terminology, clarification about the alphabetic code and the 44 phoneme/ grapheme representations
- Demonstration and practise for articulating phonemes
- The phonic skills of segmenting to spell and blending to read
- The Letters and Sounds Programme including pace, progression and assessment for Phases 1-6
- Exploration of activities, games and resources to support learning at each phase
