1 day - 09:00 - 15:30
Who is the course suitable for?
Primary and secondary teachers and teaching assistants.
What will you learn?
This course will look in detail at how to make the best use of time spent one-to-one or one-to-two with pupils. The course unpicks the key issues a teacher or teaching assistant will need to consider when working one-to-one instead of in a small group or at whole class level. Participants will focus on getting to know a pupil in terms of attainment, specific learning needs, and emotional and social factors that may affect learning. The emphasis will be on making the most of the data you get from class teachers, using qualitative and quantitative data along with your own observations to diagnose what a pupil’s difficulties are and how to move them on in their learning. Participants will also look at strategies to gain the trust of pupils and to improve their skills and confidence so that they can use what they have learnt in the classroom. A range of good practice models and techniques will be discussed.
