Course duration 1 day - 09:30 - 15:30 Who is the course suitable for? Primary and special school teachers, adults other than teachers and staff in children’s centres What will you learn? Family Kitchen is an exciting, positively evaluated, after school project developed by Islington Healthy Schools team. It provides an opportunity for children and their families’ members to learn to cook and eat healthy meals together. This course is open to all primary, specials schools and children’s centres that are interested in working with their parents and carers to provide opportunities for them to learn to cook healthy meals with their children. Each programme comprises of six 90 minute weekly sessions for 6 -8 families. A resource pack including guidance, lesson plans and recipes is available to purchase to support schools with this programme.
For Islington schools and children’s centres that have completed an application form there is funding to support schools running the programme. What will it cover? Participant will be able to:
- Develop skills and confidence in cooking with adults and children.
- Understand the value and relevance of parents/ carers cooking with their children.
- Develop strategies to encourage team work in a cooking environment.
- Deliver an appropriate programme using the Family Kitchen resource pack.
- Teach and promote healthy eating messages, food safety and food budgeting
