Who is the course suitable for?
All mainstream teachers, EMA staff, senior leaders and support staff in primary and secondary schools.
What will you learn?
Do you panic when new students arrive without English? This two day (10 hour) training programme provides successful approaches to integrating new EAL students into mainstream classrooms, generating staff confidence and ensuring pupil progress.
What will it cover?
- Apply a range of practical strategies to enable pupils new to English to participate and achieve in mainstream classes.
- Have a greater understanding of linguistic and social issues relating to recent arrivals new to English.
- Promote a positive whole school ethos with respect to diversity.
- Increase your understanding of some of the theoretical aspects underpinning good practice and how to apply them in the classroom.
