The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework for children from birth to five. In primary schools, the EYFS is delivered in nursery and reception classes and, in the case of schools with children’s centres, in the birth to three provision as well.

This second session explains the importance of the Early Years Foundation Stage in primary and special schools, and support the role of the nominated EYFS governor.
Part 2: Developing an Understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage. The sessions will inform and develop overall knowledge and understanding of EYFS.

What will you learn?

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework for children from birth to five. In primary schools, the EYFS is delivered in nursery and reception classes and, in the case of schools with children’s centres, in the birth to three provision as well. Although this is aimed at those governors who attended the first session in the autumn term, other governors with responsibility for the Early Years Foundation Stage are also invited to attend.

The course is being run in 2 parts - this is part 2.

Part 2: Developing an Understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • The sessions will inform and develop overall knowledge and understanding of EYFS, and explain how governing bodies can provide strategic oversight and act as a “critical friend”. 
  • How governors can incorporate improving early years outcomes into their current monitoring role, and the role of self evaluation in improving outcomes will also be discussed.
