Course duration 1 day. Who is the course suitable for? Anyone whose work brings them into contact with children, either directly or indirectly, including teaching staff, non-teaching staff and volunteers. What will you learn? - What is meant by the term ‘safeguarding children’ and ‘child protection’ and the statutory roles and responsibilities of schools and staff
- The various types of intervention and their thresholds
- The categories, signs and symptoms of abuse
- What to do if there is a concern for a child’s welfare or safety
- Good safeguarding practice in schools – a safeguarding ethos
What will it cover? - The obvious, and less obvious, signs and indicators of harm or abuse in children and how these may present themselves (categories, signs and symptoms)
- Safeguarding and child protection/significant harm – learning lessons from Serious Case Reviews
- Legislation, guidance and procedures – managing disclosures from children
- Recording and sharing information - the roles and responsibilities of Children’s Social Care and ‘thresholds’ for referral and intervention
- Allegations against staff
