In addition, each
publication includes a DVD of a school implementing the class programmes to demonstrate how they contribute to successful learning, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Product content

The toolkit includes:

  • Fairyland (Early Years): When a sad dragon leaves a slightly singed letter at the end of a glitter trail in their classroom, the children know something different is afoot! The dragon enlists their help. Fairyland has disappeared and all his friends (Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Bears etc) have nowhere to live. Can the children help? Fairyland provides a cross-curricular context for play-based activities which help extend the active learning approaches used in EYFS.
  • The Magic Castle: Imagine a classroom where theboundaries between reality and imagination are blurred. The classroom has been transformed by the children and their teacher into a magical place – perhaps the Great Hall of Hogwarts Castle (or the Great Hall of a Tudor mansion). The Magic Castle is a language based topic which joins the learning from health and well being to art and technology. The skills of ICT and enterprise are embedded.
  • The Unsinkable Ship: The Unsinkable Ship has an environmental studies focus. It joins the learning in language, art and technology. The children become Secret Agents who respond to a series of Top Secret Missions. They raise the Unsinkable Ship from her watery grave and recreate her in all her splendour. Great fun! The topic incorporates formative assessment, collaborative and active learning approaches.
  • The Very Important Bear: The VIB has a media focus and joins the learning from other curricular areas, in particular ICT, literacy and art. Personalisation and choice are important elements of the topic with children taking responsibility for researching aspects of film and filmmaking. They plan and make their own movies - starring the VIB - and mount eye catching wall displays. An Oscars ceremony of course results!
  • Curriculum Booklet illustrating how the four publications can be utilised to link teaching outcomes to the EYFS and Primary curriculum, Assessment for Learning and the Rose Review recommendations.
